Terms
Last updated 3 November 2026
By using Lost Samples you agree to these terms. They're kept short; if something isn't clear, get in touch.
What Lost Samples is
A tool for finding old records and sketching ideas with them. Records play through YouTube's embedded player; Lost Samples doesn't host, download or record any audio. Loops, chops, beats and flips are saved as timestamps and settings that point back at the YouTube video, not as sound. Record details may come from Discogs and YouTube. This application uses Discogs' API but is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Discogs. ‘Discogs’ is a trademark of Zink Media, LLC. Using the player also means agreeing to YouTube's Terms of Service.
Clearing samples
Finding a record here doesn't give you any rights to it. The recordings belong to their artists, labels and publishers. If you release, sell or perform anything built from a sample, clearing it is your responsibility. Don't use the site to rip, download or redistribute audio.
Your account
- You need to be at least 13 (or the minimum age for online services where you live) to make an account.
- Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account.
- Pick a username that doesn't impersonate someone else or a brand.
- You can delete your account any time in Settings.
What you post
Flips, titles, descriptions, comments, votes and your profile are public. You keep whatever rights you have in what you write, and give Lost Samples permission to show it on the site and in link previews for as long as it's up. Delete it and it's gone.
Don't post anything that:
- harasses, threatens or targets people, or attacks them for who they are;
- is spam, scams, or links to pirated audio;
- shares someone else's private information;
- is illegal, sexual, or otherwise not something you'd put next to a record.
Comments reported by three people are hidden. Lost Samples can remove anything that breaks these rules, and suspend or close accounts that keep doing it.
Copyright
If a record shown here is yours and you want it gone, it can be taken off Lost Samples; to remove the video itself, ask YouTube, which hosts it. For either, or if something posted here infringes your rights, send a notice with the page link, what you own and how to reach you via the contact page.
Fair use of the site
Don't scrape the catalog in bulk, overload the site, get around its limits, or try to get at accounts or data that aren't yours.
No guarantees
Lost Samples is a free side project, provided as it is. Records disappear when YouTube removes them, details may be wrong, and features can change or stop. To the extent the law allows, Lost Samples isn't liable for losses from using it, including anything you release from a sample you found here.
Changes
These terms may change as the site does; the date above shows when they last did. Carrying on using the site after a change means you accept it. What's collected about you is covered in Privacy.
