First off, hello there! ๐
I'm MrGrimes. I've been flat out making music since I was a young lad, when I got a copy of Propellerhead Reason 3.0 back around 2005 and was instantly hooked.
I was mainly into producing Hip Hop, which as you know is sample heavy... but being based in Dublin, Ireland, there weren't many record shops where you could physically go digging for inspiration. Not that I could afford it at the time anyway ๐
Instead, I did it all online. I've spent days trawling the internet, searching obscure uploads and forgotten records, looking for a few seconds of something I could use.
For years this was my flow: spend days collecting sounds, then spend more time flipping them in Reason, which later became Ableton, which later became a physical MPC (One+).
But as a father now, my time is incredibly limited... I need to be as efficient as possible, and I just don't have the luxury of spending days in my makeshift studio. I needed a solution... and you know what they say: necessity is the mother of invention.
So I built Lost Samples, for myself first and for anyone else who digs digitally like me.
The idea is simple: find inspiration fast from thousands of obscure records, and get a rough flip down while it's still exciting.
Dig: Jump through forgotten records on YouTube until something grabs you.

Chop: Cut up the part you like and play the chops on pads.

Sequence: Use the basic sequencer to get a rough flip together in minutes.

It's not trying to replace your setup, it's more of a sketchpad. I get the idea down quickly here, then bring it back to the MPC and finish it properly when I actually get some studio time.
I know I'm not the only one out there digging through the internet on my own, sitting on ideas nobody else ever hears ๐
So I added a community side. You can publish your flips, comment on them and follow other people. If you hear a flip you like, open it up, see how it was made and take it somewhere new. Hopefully this turns into a place where we can find records for each other and maybe even collab.
So go dig something up, have a nose at what people are flipping, and let me know what you think. It's early days, so all feedback is welcome!
Happy digging! ๐ค
